When we started a conversation about the possibility of having a child together, about 1,5 years into relating, after a couple of months of deep reflections, Dylan said: "I need to know if you can commit to something. Without it, I will not be able to have a child with you."
"What is it?"
"I'd need you to commit that no matter what happens between us in the future, that we will always come back to a LOVING CONNECTION."
"...it doesn't mean that we always have to be together. Ideally, we would, of course. But no matter how you turn it, once we have a child, we will be a FAMILY FOREVER. And it will be heart breaking if the loving connection between us, family members, is no longer there", he added.
I took some time to let it sink.
The impact of this request on me was HEART-opening. I felt RESPONSIBILITY in it beyond ourselves. CARE for something bigger than our little individual selves.
"If we can both commit to it, we have nothing to be afraid of, because with LOVING CONNECTION, we can always create the best solution for all. No matter the form, no matter the circumstances, no matter where life takes us.", I thought to myself.
We COMMITTED.
And the loving connection became our foundation.
Last couple of years put us to a test, a few times. Our 6th and 7th years together. We went through a couple of serious initiations where we were both going through some painful stuff in our relating and even deliberately took a break twice for longer periods of time. But the commitment we made 5 years ago kept bringing us not only back to the loving connection, it also kept bringing us back together. Because when the loving connection is there, EVERYTHING is POSSIBLE.
We learned to be CREATIVE.
We learned to stay OPEN.
We learned to LOVE.
We laugh and we roll, and we celebrate yet another initiation we’ve successfully gone through at the end of this year. When I came back from Bali, we both realized we made a quantum leap in our consciousness and perception. We see bigger POSSIBILITIES to be ourselves while sharing our lives together than ever before!
We even created a podcast a few days ago “Celebrating Love” to commemorate this moment in our life, for ourselves and for future generations.
There are several things we discovered over the years that support us to come back to the loving connection, but the PRIMARY one is the COMMITMENT we made 5 years ago. We find the HOW along the way, often as an act of SURRENDER to this commitment.
One thing I learned that is worth sharing is to not need another to change in order to open my heart FIRST.
I want to honor THIS at the end of this year and wish the whole WORLD for 2024 and into eternity:
Always come back to a LOVING CONNECTION.
