Gut Feeling

GUT FEELING

Is it always it?

I used to have fears of flying in an airplane. Each time before my flight I had a gut feeling that this plane would crash and that maybe I should not fly. And like this each time my gut feeling was trying to rescue me, and each time I eventually flew and stayed alive.

When I met men in my life who resembled my father, I had a gut feeling that these are nice men and I can trust them. And if I met men who somewhat resembled one of my brothers, I had a gut feeling I should stay away.

When I am on a project and I feel squeezed by deadlines or disappointment that it doesn't go the way I imagined, my gut feeling tells me to quit.

When I envy someone or they remind me of someone in the past I was afraid of, my gut feeling tells me to stay away from them.

When I commit to something (for instance, regular self-practice) and after some days my gut feeling tells me to skip it today.

When in my relationship I face a difficult situation that seems unresolvable for a while, my gut feeling tells me to quit.

In truth, all of the above are just conditioned responses of our brain, not a gut feeling. The concept of a gut feeling is so often misused (in spiritual circles, it often lives as "my truth").

So each time someone tells me about their gut feeling, my first reaction is "REALLY?". ;-)

In my experience, the gut feeling can show up in a somewhat purer quality when I am not triggered by anything and I am in a calm space, when there is no one around or no situation that makes me feel uncomfortable. And even then, our subconscious programming is so strong that it takes quite a high level of awareness to recognize what is what.

So, YES to listen deeply, and also YES to becoming aware of our conditioned responses (which can be very deep & hidden). ✨
